Human Characteristics:
Ireland is home to 4,722,028 people according to the 2011 calculations and has a growth rate of 1.112 percent currently. The languages spoken in Ireland include English and Irish. The English language takes up about 94 percent of the population while the Irish language conquers only about 36 percent. The religious views in this country are scattered over a group of religions. The main religions consist of the Roman Catholics who take up 94 percent of the communities but they are followed by the Church of Ireland, Presbyterian, Muslim, Orthodox, and Methodist. But Ireland's trade with the United States however is going good. While they receive electronics and equipment, computers, drugs and pharmaceuticals, and livestock feed, we receive alcohol, chemicals, data processing equipment, electrical machinery, clothing, and glassware. |
Physical Characteristics:
Something really special about Ireland is its climate. If you've ever seen at Ireland you would noticed how green the land is but that's because of the precipitation. Also, because it is an island the warm ocean currents give the land moisture as well. Winters are mostly rainy with clouds and the mountains are snow capped; but very rarely is the ground covered with snow. The summers are mostly warm and sunny with a couple rainfalls. Humidity sometimes occurs and that brings thunderstorms and lightning along with it. Mountains bring the wetter weather so therefore the driest places are where there are few mountains. The prevailing winds come form the southwest from the Gulf Stream. Ireland also has many mammals living on its surface. These animals include seals, whales, red deer, pine marten, badger, otter, hare, stoat, fallow deer, rabbit and other rodents. The lizard is also located on this island along with frogs and toads. The rivers are the habitats of the salmon, trout, char, pollen, pike, perch, and eels. But birds are the dominant species with a population of approximately 380. The landforms that we see make up Ireland today are not what was present years ago. Under the surface the whole island is made up from a very old rock that created huge mountain ranges similar to the Himalayans today. What happened to them was caused by an ice age 20000 years ago and now the highest peak is only 3414 feet high. 75 percent of island is lower than 492 feet. The ice age covered the surface in snow and ice which later melted unevenly leaving hummocky terrain behind. Most of the soil in Ireland was effected from the glacial drift but is still a valuable resource. The vegetation is so great because of all the moisture that the precipitation does to the soil. All the luscious greens, grasses, and trees are what make this country so beautiful. Due to the fact that Ireland is an island its bodies of water are limited. The Atlantic Ocean is the surrounding water along with the Irish Sea towards to east. The rivers are the Shannon River, the Blackwater River, the Suir River, the Lee River, and the Inny River. The main lakes of Ireland are Lake Neagh, Lake Corrib, Lake Shannon, and Lake Ree. |
